The success rate of lions when hunting is about 17-19%. For the most part, this is attributed to the ability of the lion to camouflage. Lions have a small heart and lungs. Despite reaching top speeds of 60kph, they can not keep up a chase of between 100 - 200 metres. Because of this, they stalk their prey until they are as close as 30 metres before they charge.
